"The Difference Between Toxic Positivity and Healthy Optimism" discusses that there is a balance between being positive and optimistic about situations, life, and the future and between acknowledging and dealing with pain, trauma, and difficulty. It is possible to do both. Well meaning people often bypass pain, difficulty, and trauma in others by trying to give advice, fix, and quote scripture. This often makes things worse. However, in a culture that has often forgotten about believing for the best and having faith, a dose of realistic optimism is important too. Finding a balance between believing the best in a difficult situation while acknowledging pain and difficulty can help us deal with trauma and challenging situations--others' and our own--constructively and proactively.
